Five Reasons You May Feel Exhausted

Are you exhausted and not sure why? We all have times in our lives when we reach a point of being severely tired. Sometimes we know why we feel this way, and other times we do not. Feeling exhausted is an indication that something is amiss in our life, and it is wise to search and pinpoint the reason why in order to find a solution.

Feeling well-rested is vital for our self-confidence and health. Our bodies are not made to run on empty, and our general state should be one of feeling rested and ready to face each day’s challenges. We need energy to complete all the tasks we encounter, to do our jobs properly, and for our relationships. When we don’t feel that energy, it’s time to figure out why.

1. Sleep Habits

How are you sleeping? If you are sleeping well, there may be other factors at work in your exhaustion. If you are not sleeping well, this could be why you feel the way you do. If you aren’t sleeping well, do some detective work.

Are you going to bed at the same time each night? This allows your body to know what to expect each night. Do you have a restful sleep environment? Sleeping in a room full of electronics such as computers, televisions, and gadgets with lights can all interrupt your sleep.

2. Nutrients

How are your eating habits? Is the majority of your diet good, healthy food? If not, now is the time to revisit your eating habits and make some changes. Too much sugar can make you feel sluggish, as can other foods that contain too few nutrients. Caffeine too close to bedtime can cause you to feel alert and make sleep difficult to come by.

Eating a wide variety of healthy foods allows your body and brain to regulate all the chemicals in your body, including the ones that help you relax. Before bedtime, reach for foods containing tryptophan. This is the chemical that allows the body to produce serotonin, which brings feelings of calm. Keep a food journal and make it a priority to get to know your body and how each type of food causes you to react.

3. Stress

Do you have stress in your life? If so, this will certainly rob you of sleep. Try to pinpoint what is bothering you and find ways to eliminate this from your life, if possible.

4. Healthy Exhaustion

Did you just run a marathon? Were you outside all day working in the garden or doing something else that required a lot of energy? You may be genuinely tired. Exercising your body brings natural feelings of sleepiness. If this is the reason for it, simply make sure to replenish your body with food, water, and plenty of rest.

5. If There Is More

If you have gone through the list of lifestyle causes for exhaustion and still can’t figure out a reason, it may be time to visit your doctor. There are many legitimate reasons why your body may be exhausted and it is important to find out what is going on. This way, you can find something to assist you in getting your energy levels back up, or dig deeper to rule out any more serious causes.

Life can be busy. There is no reason to slide through it feeling exhausted and miserable. Find the reason for your exhaustion so you can make necessary changes. Then welcome tomorrow with a smile and all the energy you need to make it a great day.
