Everyone wants a way to remember special times in their lives, and there is nothing better than a photograph to bring those special times to mind. Just as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. No one wants a bad photo of them recorded forever in history, though, so here are some important things to remember.
1. Be Confident
This is the time to show your confidence, and some preparation will help you get there. Even if you are having a bad hair day or a moment of self-doubt, muster up some courage and let your personality shine through.
The photo will turn out much better if you do your best to throw any self-doubt out. Repeat the mantra “fake it ‘til you make it” and soon you will feel better about the photos.
2. Prepare Properly
When you plan to have your photo taken, prepare your clothing as soon as you book the appointment. This will give you time to shop for anything you may have forgotten, or get a new outfit if necessary. No one wants to be taken by surprise on the day of the photo shoot and realize that their favorite outfit no longer fits, or that one of the shoes they were going to wear is missing.
Once you decide on your outfit, try it on. This will take you a long way in being confident while being photographed, and you will feel calm knowing that you are prepared and organized.
Don’t forget about makeup, if you wear it. Put on enough that it will be noticeable, as it can sometimes look washed out when using flash. On the other hand, be sure not to overdo it, because you don’t want to look like you were celebrating Halloween when it was, in fact, not Halloween.
Choose a flattering hairstyle, get in front of the mirror, and don’t be afraid to play around with it for the best look. Be sure to smooth out any flyaway hairs and you are ready to go.
3. Don’t Forget to Sleep
Sleep may be the farthest thing from your mind when getting photos done, but sufficient sleep is an important step in making sure you look your best. Getting plenty of rest in the week before your photos are taken, and a good night’s sleep the night before, is a wise move. This will decrease the chance of dreaded bags under the eyes, and it will put a sparkle of energy into your demeanor.
4. Choose the Best Angle
A great way to look attractive in photos is to turn slightly away from the camera, while maintaining eye contact with it. This will help to slim your shape and will give you nice body contour rather than a head-on, square-shaped look.
If it is within your power to decide at which angle the camera will be held, ask for the camera to be at the height of your face or higher. Having a photo taken from below causes proportions to be distorted and bodies to appear huge and looming. Having a photo taken from above you is much more flattering.
5. Smile
A smile is one of the most important things to remember when your photo is being taken. It is your number one beauty feature, so don’t forget it.
Having your photos taken can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these tips to show yourself in the best light possible, and you will find yourself with a great-looking set of photographs.
